If I were a flash drive...

Particularly one that belongs to Grace... it won't be long till I wind up dead. Not just dead, but I'll end up decapitated, being stripped naked THEN dead. Sounds like a murder mystery? Not quite. In fact, it's no mystery at all.. I am a flash drive killer. Not one of my flash drives have ended up in a good way. Let's see.. my first flash drive got kidnapped (aka stolen), my second flash drive got abandoned by me, and then was found at a remote place filled with sand (TRUE STORY), and my third and recent one... well... I guess the photo speaks for itself:

My flash drive was originally dressed in a pretty white robe. But this, was.. and still is how it ended up to be. Here's why.. I usually buy flash drives with a cap.. but more often than not, I'd lose the cap, which is not good. So for once, I decided to buy a flash drive that slips in and out... but I soon realized that it was worse than losing a cap...

Anyway, my flash drive was in rather bad condition. For some time, its head was bent/elevated. I didn't care much because it could still be read. Time and time again, something in me nudged me to save what's on my flash drive to my computer. Time and time again, I ignored that little "something". And then, on the day my flash drive died... it was decapitated. I panicked and tried fixing it back! Of course, it didn't work.. I kept praying and praying and praying...

I told God "I just need for it to work one time, just one time Lord.. to save all my files"

So mom brought it to the nearest computer shop while I stayed home. I prayed again and told God"Ok God, it's up to You now... it's Your call". And I just left it and not worry about it..

Here's what I found out when mom came home. Apparently, the boss of the shop told her that it wasn't possible to fix it. But then, he tried. Mom was praying really hard too... she was praying the whole time. Anyway, so I tried and viola! it worked! I managed to save all my files into 3 different locations!

Here's a more astonishing fact... after that one time, my computer could not detect my flash drive again. It couldn't recognize it. So God did answer my prayer... He did allow it to work just one time.. enough for me to save all my files! My amazing Heavenly Father! :)

I bought chocolates for that guy who helped save my flash drive, at least for just that one time. But I suspect he was just the assistant... God was the ultimate life saver. As always!

Food for life

I hate man-made food. I eat God-made food. That's my rule. I eat real crab, not imitation crabmeat. I eat real chicken, not some frozen nuggets that comes in a package. I make my muffins from real banana, not some banana essence. And like what Dr. Cal Lightman from the tv series "Lie to me" said:

"If you can't see what's in it, don't eat it"... that;s why I hardly ever eat char siew pao when I have the choice.

I'm particular about food. Yes I am. Especially when I'm at home. It's a different story when I'm outside though... when I'm invited for a meal. At that time, I'll just thank God for the food He lovingly provided and just eat it. But at home, and whenever I can.. I am particular.

Did I tell you I can't stand man-made food? Well, there's one man-made food I have extreme hatred for. MARGARINE. It is the worst and the worst man-made food. Who even calls it food?? if you don't believe me, why not check out this video about margarine is made...

And compare it with how butter is made...

HUGE difference huh....

I forgot how I hate margarine. In fact, I bake so much with butter that I even forgot margarine even existed. But on Sunday during dinner.. I came face to face with that arch enemy of mine. I was having peanut butter french toast, with a lump of butter on top... or so I thought. It was quite weird that I didn't realize it wasn't butter. After all, it did not have the smell butter usually has..

Oh wow. Never have I found such a deceiving "food". It looked a lot like butter.. the color, the texture. But I was suspicious.  So I took some and tasted it..... and guess what?! It did not even have ANY flavor at all! No aroma, no flavor and taste.. no wonder NONE of the chefs ever use margarine to cook..

Here's the real difference between butter and margarine. I have a little tub of margarine on the table.. mom says it is good for my dog (I doubt it).. so yeah, it's been there for like MONTHS. NO ants have invaded it, NO flies even want to go near it... it still smells fresh. I left a bit of butter out on the kitchen counter once.. and it didn't even take 30 mins for the ants to be all over them... and not to mention, flies would love to stick their feet into the creamy butter too. I pity anyone who has to eat that piece of margarine garbage (but then again, even garbage has flies on them,....)

Now I finally realize why I am a butter advocate.... I would rather die of a butter overdose than live for many more years, but having to eat margarine everyday. At least, if I die of a butter-induced heart disease, I'll die happy,...

But then again, I'm in the best shape of my life.. must be the butter! :) Thank God for dairy!

Mustard seed

Have you seen a mustard seed? I haven't, but from the photos it seems to be the size of a soybean. That's quite small. There has always been a story from the Bible that I have always disassociated myself with.. it's the story of the mustard seed faith.

Matthew 17:19-20  "Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, 'Why could we not cast it out?' He said to them, 'Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."

I have always thought the mountains Jesus was referring to were LITERALLY mountains. HAHA. It's funny how naive I had been. Anyway, yesterday while I was reading my bible, I came across this passage and then I look at the footnote. It said that the "mountains" actually were obstacles in my life and by trusting God, He will help me move it.

So I've been having a little personal problems lately and so there I was so helpless and I left it all to God. I refused to doubt. I refused to worry. And then today, after praying for quite awhile about that problem.. the solution came! It came! So when I realized it.. I heard a still voice saying "Haven't I told you that you could move mountains?"  It's that same voice that told  me "Trust ME" when I was faced with a terrifying cockroach (yea yea.. laugh all you want) years back.

MOUNTAINS. I can move life's mountains! And I did not even lift a finger  :)

Failure has never tasted so good..

I have made yeast breads about a number of times now and have succeeded.  But since it takes such a long time to get a loaf, I sought to make a shortcut loaf.. the glorious Irish Soda bread. Now Irish soda bread is freaking easy and cuts the time down to.. well, just trust me, it's really quick to make! Anyway, so I attempted it just now.. and took 10 mins to do everything (including making my own whole wheat flour)... and about 40 mins to bake... unfortunately, it didn't work out..
Firstly, it was ok that my bread looked like it had a huge tumor (as long as it worked). Secondly.. well, and also lastly.. I couldn't get it out of the pan! I panicked and mom helped me get the bread out.. Anyway, because of the crisis the bread became.. uhm, a pile  of clump (I have no other way to describe it! LOL)....

And the bottom crust was stuck (well, it still is stuck as of now...)

But guess what?! Unlike most times, where I'd be so disturbed by my failure and get so so sad, this time round, since it was minimal effort and minimal ingredients, I was happy to eat that pile of clump... so I started eating the bread.. and eating and eating and eating... I couldn't stop! Though the bread had no oil in  it (only milk, flour salt and sugar), it tasted sooo good and sooo addictive!! LOL. The bread tasted like a muffin, but at the same time like a bread (also tasted something like the Indian appam).. intriguing! Anyway, this is the only mess I so willingly clean after myself.. or shall I say, polish up after myself? YUM!
I will attempt another recipe.. I don't care, soda bread WILL and SHALL be in my repertoire. :p I know. I'm obsessed.

Paging my cup of water

I misplaced my cup of water. I know that sounds funny, but I hate misplacing things! Especially when I'm thirsty.
I just love the fact that my cordless phone has a pager that pages it whenever I have no idea where I last placed it (it comes with a Jingle Bells tune, btw..). So I was thinking, why can't everything have  a pager??! Then I'll be able to find my glasses, my cup, my journal article.. hahaha. But then again, there would be so many pagers, I'll misplace them and then I'll have to find not one, but two things!!

Oh well... I guess it better stay status quo then.

And it's back to finding that cup of water (here cuppy cup cup)... I know, my life is super exciting right? Yay for me.

UPDATE: I found my cup of water shortly after, but realized there wasn't any water in the cup so I actually wasted 15 minutes of my life searching for something that did not exist in the first place. DARN. Oh, have I told  you my life was very interesting?

Does God speak to us?

I used to be really skeptical when people told me that God spoke to them. To me, that person really wants to carry out his/her plan, so saying that God says so will justify it in a way. I mean, do you know of a stronger backing than God?! Anyway, God speaks to me. Honestly He does. Today, He spoke to me through His Word.
Let's backtrack, shall we? I kinda got overwhelmed by my masters proposal, and thought that it would be too cowardice to quit. So I thought of a plan.. a plan to do masters, but part time. That way, I could do what I wanted while finishing my masters.  My parents were agreeable, and I took that as a way of God approving what He wanted me to do.
So I went to meet up with Dr. Ummul to tell her the news.. I didn't know how to break it to her, neither did I know how she would react. Anyway, I told the Lord "Lord, I don't know what's going to happen, but give me the words to speak.." I also told God that what Dr. Ummul decides will be
So in the end I didn't even break it to her.. instead, my plans of being a part-time student was ruined. I found out that since I'm on scholarship, I got to see it through. Oh great..  just great...
But I was quite peaceful about it actually.. which surprises me. I still am.. So, when I came back home.. I prayed and then I opened my Bible.. and the first verse was this:

The lot is cast into the lap,But its every decision is from the LORD. - Proverbs 16:33

It was just what I needed - the reassurance. I know that no matter what every decision made, everything that happens, He is in control...  :)
Then I read on.. and found this:

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. - Isaiah 55:8

And then.. I closed the Bible, and went into the kitchen.. and then this verse came to mind:

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. - Jeremiah 29:11

Then I realized.. yes, my thoughts are not like God's, nor can I ever comprehend His ways, but one thing I know for sure... everything works for my good! And then a few other verses came to mind...

What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’   - Isaiah 41:10

I was comforted. In fact, I was more than comforted.. I had a new sense of confidence knowing that God is with me and He is for me! I know that there will be difficulty ahead, but I know who's with me.. And He is the mightiest and most powerful of them all :)
So, knowing that.. I went to my computer to check my email... and then a daily devotional by Max Lucado titled "He Knows the Answers" caught my eye... and more so this verse he quoted:

“You answer us in amazing ways, God our Savior.”  Psalm 65:5

Indeed God answers me. How ever small I may be, how ever insignificant I am to most people, I am precious to Him. And He knows this has been bugging me for days.. and now that He has answered me in the most amazing ways!

So yes, God speaks to me.. in the most amazing ways! :)) And though my plans were ruined, I know His is much better!

Thank You, Lord Jesus. :) You rock!
