When I was younger, I never liked reading. Not even one bit. And that is why I never did well in school. I flunked my geography, my history, every subject that required me to read a lot.
Which is ironic how I landed on a job that not only required me to read, it required me to hang on to every word that is printed. I guess it was a good training ground for me. From being a girl who did not read at all, who watched countless hours of tv, I am now the girl who reads most of the time, either novels or articles, and spends limited time watching television. What a big change!
I guess most of my reading is all in a day's work, but even when I recovering from my editorial job during weekends, I read as much as possible. Sure, I can watch a movie and save all that time, but I will encounter lousy acting, corny lines, unnecessary romance, and well.. it'll just be a plain waste of time and a no-brainer. Reading, on the other hand, cuts out all of those crap and presents me carefully planned plot, skifully crafted lines and refreshing humour from the author himself. All garbage are filtered. There will be less than ideal books, of course, but even that is better than watching B-rated movies!
I know, I know, I'm boring. But I guess having been such a tv addict and movie buff I began to see that movie version of the books are flawed once I got into the habit of reading. And that's in defence of good books, worthy of recognition.
And no, it's not JUST because I wanna keep my job as a book editor :p
Btw, I am now reading John Grisham. Do check him out :)
